Three new elementary schools are under construction across Celina as students returned to class Wednesday, Aug. 12, and eight more campuses funded by the district's $2.3 billion bond are in the planning stages.

Alma Jo Scott Elementary, Ophelia Grumbles Elementary and Janet H. Calvert Elementary are all scheduled to open for the 2027-28 school year, according to a construction update Director of Construction and Facilities Planning David Fink presented to the Celina ISD Board of Trustees at its July 27 meeting. Dirt began moving on all three sites by the district's June 22 board meeting.

Scott Elementary is going up in the Green Meadows area, Grumbles Elementary in Uptown and Calvert Elementary in Ramble. Scott is funded through the district's older 2019 bond; Grumbles and Calvert are the first construction projects from the 2025 bond that voters approved in May 2025.

That $2.295 billion bond package covers far more than three elementary schools. The full pipeline includes High School No. 2, Middle School No. 3, Middle School No. 4 and five additional elementary schools (numbered 9 through 13), according to Community Impact. No opening dates for those later-phase campuses have been publicly confirmed.

The building matches the growth. The district reported in April 2025 that roughly 800 people move to Celina each month, with enrollment expected to double by 2029.

The district said in a May 3, 2025, post on X ahead of the bond election that it could fund all proposed projects using the existing property tax rate, mirroring its approach with the 2019 bond. Trustees unanimously authorized the sale of a new bond series at the July 27 meeting, with financial advisor Brian Grubbs presenting interest rates and issuance scenarios before the vote.
