The Prosper Town Council will hold an Oct. 13 public hearing on a request to rezone about two acres on Business Park Drive from farmland to light industrial use.

The town posted a public hearing notice for the meeting, set for 6:15 p.m. at Prosper Town Hall Council Chambers, 250 W. First St. Mayor David F. Bristol and the council will hear public comment and consider the request, filed as case ZONE-26-0004.

The proposal would change the property's zoning from Agriculture to Planned Development for Light Industrial Buildings. The site sits on the west side of Business Park Drive, about 1,095 feet south of First Street, in the Collin County School Land Survey 12, Abstract 147.

No applicant is named in the notice. The specific type of light industrial development planned for the site has not been disclosed.

How the case got here

The Prosper Planning and Zoning Commission reviewed the same request at its Tuesday, Sept. 15 meeting. Under the town's standard process, the commission reviews rezoning proposals and sends a recommendation to the Town Council, which makes the final decision to approve or deny, according to Community Impact. The outcome of the Sept. 15 commission hearing has not been confirmed.

Business Park Drive already hosts light commercial and industrial uses. A nearby three-acre parcel at 450 Business Park Drive, in the same survey abstract, was rezoned from Agricultural to Planned Development-Commercial in January 2012.

The notice states that all interested citizens and property owners have the right to attend and be heard. Additional meeting information will be posted at prospertx.gov three business days before the hearing.

The notice says the council will "consider and act upon" the request at the Oct. 13 meeting, meaning a vote could follow the public hearing that night. No public comment from town officials about the proposal appears in available records as of publication.
