Five contests on the first day of school. Prosper High School didn't wait to get competitive, opening the 2026-27 athletic season Tuesday, Aug. 11, with varsity and JV matchups in water polo and volleyball before the final bell rang.

Varsity girls water polo faced Southlake Carroll at 5 p.m. at Prosper HS, followed by varsity boys water polo against the same Dragons squad at 6 p.m., according to the school's Eagle Brief. On the volleyball side, freshman and JV girls traveled to Argyle for 5:30 p.m. matches while varsity girls volleyball hosted Argyle at 6:30 p.m. back in Prosper.

The week continues Thursday, Aug. 13, when varsity boys water polo hosts John Paul II at 5 p.m.

Academic Cup caps strong 2025-26

The athletic launch comes alongside academic recognition. Prosper High School won the PISD Academic Cup for the 2025-26 school year, an award honoring the combined work of coaches, teachers and student-athletes across the district's high schools. The school confirmed the honor on its official Facebook page.

Senior sunrise kicks off Class of 2027

Before the bells rang Tuesday, the Class of 2027 had already gathered. Seniors met at the PHS baseball field at 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, for their traditional senior sunrise, marking the start of their final year.

New district, new rivals

The 2026-27 season carries extra weight for Prosper. Under the UIL's 2026-28 realignment, the Eagles share District 4-5A Division II in football with Celina for the first time, according to Prosper ISD. Other district members include Anna, Denison, Frisco, Frisco Emerson, Frisco Independence, Frisco Memorial and Frisco Panther Creek.

Prosper went 11-2 last season and sent seven players to Division I programs. Celina, ranked No. 17 in the state preseason poll, finished 14-1. As we reported Aug. 4, both programs opened UIL football practice the first week of August.
