Prosper ISD athletes traded camp drills for fall competition prep on Monday, August 3, after the district's athletics department closed out its 2026 Summer Sports Camps the same day UIL football practice opened statewide.
For Prosper ISD's four high schools, the shift from summer development to fall competition carries extra stakes this year. The UIL's 2026–28 biennial realignment placed the Prosper Eagles into District 4-5A Division II alongside the Celina Bobcats, creating a new neighborhood rivalry inside the same nine-team district that also includes Anna, Denison, Frisco, Frisco Emerson, Frisco Independence, Frisco Memorial, and Frisco Panther Creek.
Celina enters the season making program history. The nine-time state champions will compete at the Class 5A level for the first time, moving up after years of dominance in smaller classifications. The Celina Record reported the Bobcats will face "opponents both old and new" in the nine-team district after a pair of scrimmages and two preseason games.
The preseason numbers back the anticipation. Sports Illustrated's High School on SI ranked Celina No. 17 in its Texas Top 25 after a 14-1 campaign last fall. Prosper (11-2 in 2025) landed in the "Also Considered" tier, with SI noting seven Eagles from last year's roster moved on to Division I football and key positions need new starters.
Both programs earned spots on the Victory+ and Dave Campbell's Texas Sports streaming schedule for the THSCA Game of the Week, announced at the Texas High School Coaches Association Convention in Houston.
The realignment also pushed Prosper Walnut Grove and Prosper Richland up a classification, meaning all four Prosper ISD high schools face stiffer competition this cycle.
A new UIL safety rule adds another layer to August workouts. Starting Saturday, August 1, all Texas schools must use Wet Bulb Globe Temperature readings to govern outdoor practice length and whether players can wear pads, a measure meant to reduce heat illness during the hottest weeks of conditioning.
Schools that held spring practice begin workouts Monday, August 10. The first regular-season games kick off Thursday, August 27. The first day of school for Prosper ISD students falls the week of August 11.
