The Texas Department of Transportation approved $38.2 million to widen FM 1385 in Prosper, though construction won't begin until at least 2030.

Travis Campbell, TxDOT's Dallas district director of transportation, planning and development, detailed the project at a Sept. 22 Prosper Town Council work session, as first reported by Community Impact. The Texas Transportation Commission approved the funding in August as part of TxDOT's 2027 Unified Transportation Program (UTP), a 10-year spending plan.

The money covers the first of three segments TxDOT has carved out along FM 1385. That segment runs from US 380 to Union Park Boulevard and will widen the road from two lanes to four with curbs and gutters. The full corridor, stretching from US 380 to FM 455, is planned for six lanes at buildout.

The two remaining segments are Union Park Boulevard to Cotton Trail and Cotton Trail to FM 455. No construction funding has been approved for either.

Campbell told the council he is pushing to start sooner than 2030 by finishing pre-construction steps early. "We are aggressively looking for ways to accelerate this project," he said.

Right-of-way acquisition is on track to wrap up in October 2026, and design work is roughly 95% complete, Campbell said. Once designs are finished, utility relocation can begin in early 2027. Those pre-construction costs come from a separate funding source, not the $38.2 million earmarked for construction.

The UTP is a plan, not a guaranteed allocation, Campbell cautioned. Funding levels can shift before construction begins.

The $38.2 million is part of a $138 billion statewide transportation investment the commission approved in August, which includes $95 billion for projects over the next decade.

A Prosper town document estimates the full FM 1385 corridor expansion at $132 million, though that figure predates the current segment-by-segment breakdown and may not reflect final costs.

No date has been announced for the next council discussion of FM 1385.
