Two projects to widen Coleman Street in Prosper have nearly finished the design phase, with utility crews already relocating lines ahead of construction.

The town has acquired the right of way for both sections, Community Impact reported Aug. 31. No construction start date has been announced.

The first project will widen Coleman Street from two lanes to four between Gorgeous Road and Prosper Trail. The second will add the remaining two southbound lanes between Prosper Trail and Prosper High School, listed as Talon Lane in town capital-improvement records.

Together, the work will give Coleman Street a continuous four-lane cross section. The widened road will connect neighborhoods west of the Dallas North Tollway to the high school campus.

What the town budgeted

Prosper's Capital Improvement Program, adopted in September 2022, budgeted $7 million for the Gorgeous Road-to-Prosper Trail segment. That breaks down to $900,000 for design, $600,000 for land and easements, and $5.5 million for construction.

The Prosper Trail-to-high-school segment was budgeted at $3.42 million: $720,000 for land and easements and $2.7 million for construction. Its design was bundled with the northern segment at no additional cost.

Those figures are from the fiscal year 2023–2027 plan and may have been revised in later budget cycles.

A separate segment on the horizon

A third Coleman Road project, covering First Street to Gorgeous Road, appeared in the town's 2025 bond election roadway package at $9 million. That segment would build a two-lane divided roadway with concrete, curb and underground drainage. It is a separate effort from the two projects now in the utility-relocation stage.

What's next

The town has not announced a construction start date or a projected completion timeline for either widening project. Utility relocation work is underway along Coleman Street.
