Prosper residents could see their community library grow to as much as 72,000 square feet under a new facility master plan the town released earlier this year.
Volume 1 of the Prosper Community Library Facility Master Plan lays out expansion scenarios ranging from 33,000 square feet to 72,000 square feet, according to Prosper Local News. The library currently shares a 35,000-square-foot building with Town Hall at 200 S. Main St., though the library's own share of that space is not specified in public documents.
Residents helped shape the plan's priorities through focus groups and surveys. Top requests included more program space, room for creative and maker activities, and a stronger role as a community hub. The planning team also benchmarked Prosper's staffing and programming capacity against peer communities of similar size.
Prosper's rapid growth adds urgency. The town went from roughly 9,700 residents to approximately 31,700 between 2010 and 2021, adding about 2,000 people a year, according to the Town's 2022 Downtown Master Plan.
No cost estimates, funding mechanism or timeline for a council vote have been made public. The town is still soliciting feedback through its official Library Master Plan page.
