Walnut Grove High School's Lauren Carrothers has been named the Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) 5A-6A Field Athlete of the Year for the second straight year, according to the official TGCA awards page.

The award followed a dominant junior season. Carrothers won gold in both the long jump and triple jump at the UIL 5A Girls State Track & Field Championship on May 15 in Austin, posting personal bests in each event: 19-4 in the long jump and 41-1 in the triple jump, Star Local Media reported.

That double gold built on her sophomore year in 2025, when she medaled at the Class 5A state meet in both events without winning either.

Carrothers competes under Head Coach John Fletcher and jump coaches Robert Jones and Darius Hart at Walnut Grove, one of four high schools in Prosper ISD. The Prosper ISD Board of Trustees recognized her at its May 18 meeting, noting she made history by bringing home two state titles for the school.

The TGCA separates its top individual honors into track and field categories at the 5A-6A level. Carrothers won the field award. The track honor went to Lilly Koenig of Smithson Valley High School, coached by Trent Hall.

Back-to-back recognition from the state's coaches association places Carrothers among the most decorated active prep field athletes in Texas. Her senior season at Walnut Grove begins in the spring.
