Prosper and Celina commuters heading toward downtown Dallas face a second tollway disruption this week as the North Texas Tollway Authority closes portions of the southbound Dallas North Tollway for pavement improvements starting at 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, through Thursday, Aug. 20.
The closures are separate from the Dallas Parkway lane closures we reported Friday for the $459.7 million tollway extension project in Prosper and Celina. That means drivers who use the DNT corridor could hit construction zones on both the local segment near U.S. 380 and the stretch south of I-635.
NTTA posted the closure schedule on Facebook:
Sunday, Aug. 16, to Monday, Aug. 17 (8 p.m. to 5 p.m., a 21-hour window):
- Southbound right lane closed from Northaven Road to Meaders Lane
- Southbound Royal Lane entrance ramp closed
Monday, Aug. 17, through Thursday, Aug. 20 (8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly):
- Southbound right lane closed from Mockingbird Lane to Lemmon Avenue
The first closure stretches from Sunday evening through Monday afternoon, unlike the standard overnight windows later in the week.
Crews are removing and replacing the driving surface of the southbound lanes, according to NTTA. The broader project covers the southbound DNT main lanes from I-635 to I-35E and includes concrete repairs, drainage improvements and restriping. NTTA describes it as regularly scheduled maintenance.
The project spans three sections: I-635 to Walnut Hill Lane, Walnut Hill Lane to University Boulevard, and University Boulevard to I-35E.
NTTA did not designate official detour routes in its advisory.
NTTA's lane closures database also lists a planned closure at DNT and I-635 on Thursday, Aug. 20, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
