Drivers in Prosper and Celina are navigating an unprecedented wave of road construction, with seven projects in various stages of work across both cities this summer.

Here's where each stands as of Aug. 18.

Legacy Drive: construction underway

Legacy Drive is closed between Prosper Trail and Parvin Road for paving and drainage work, the Town of Prosper announced on July 24. The closure is expected to last through September, though Prosper ISD school access will be maintained.

The $10.6 million project will build two lanes of Legacy Drive from Prosper Trail to Watkins Middle School, plus turn lanes, a water line and drainage improvements. Prosper Town Council approved a $6.1 million construction contract on May 19. Prosper ISD is funding upfront costs, with the town reimbursing the district $6.1 million for its share of design, construction, land and utility expenses.

"Thanks again to the school district for working with us," council member Craig Andres said at the May 19 meeting when the contract was approved. "It's a great example of all of us working together."

Construction is scheduled to wrap by mid-2027. That's ahead of the 2027-28 school year, when Prosper ISD plans to open Watkins Middle School.

Craig Road: design nearly done

Craig Road will be built as a three-lane road from Preston Road to First Street, narrowing to two lanes from First Street to Broadway Street and a neighborhood street from Broadway Street to Fifth Street. The project includes paving, drainage and a water line. Design work is nearly complete and utility relocations are ongoing, according to Community Impact Newspaper.

Coleman Street widening: design phase

Coleman Street in Prosper is being widened to four lanes in two projects. One widens the road between Gorgeous Road and Prosper Trail; the second builds the remaining two southbound lanes between Prosper Trail and Prosper High School. Both are nearing completion of the design phase, right-of-way has been acquired for both sections and utility relocation is underway. No start date has been set.

Oklahoma Drive: paving moves south

In Celina, crews are converting Oklahoma Drive from asphalt to concrete between Pecan Street and Malone Street. The project also includes drainage, signage, lighting and landscaping. The road is open to traffic between Pecan Street and Beech Street as paving shifts to the Beech-to-Malone segment.

Coit Road: widening in progress

Coit Road in Celina is being widened from two to four lanes in two sections. The city is handling the stretch from East Outer Loop to Choate Parkway, and is partnering with Collin County on the segment from Choate Parkway to Vest Lane. Paving, drainage and intersection improvements are ongoing from Choate Parkway to Vest Lane.

Dallas North Tollway: late 2027 opening targeted

The 13.7-mile Dallas North Tollway Phase 4A extension from US 380 in Prosper to FM 428 in Celina remains on track for a late 2027 opening. All bridge decks from US 380 to Light Farms Way are complete, and mainlane paving from First Street to Light Farms Way is underway, according to the NTTA's May 2026 progress report. Work on the FM 428 intersection is expected to continue through late summer or early fall.

A future Phase 4B will extend the tollway from FM 428 to the Grayson County line. No timeline has been set.

Both cities are already planning development along the corridor, according to Community Impact Newspaper. Celina envisions office campuses, entertainment venues and hotels; Prosper is planning mixed-use with retail, restaurants, offices and housing.

Ash Street: reopened July 7

Ash Street in downtown Celina reopened July 7 after being widened from two to four lanes between Preston Road and Oklahoma Drive. The improvements added on-street parking, street lighting and landscaped medians.
