Rock Hill's Blue Hawks will kick off their 2026 regular season against a proven opponent Thursday, Aug. 27, when Arlington Bowie visits for a 7 p.m. varsity game that FOX 4 selected as its Game of the Week.

The matchup pits a Rock Hill program chasing its third consecutive playoff berth against a Bowie squad that won back-to-back district titles in 2024 and 2025. The Volunteers return 13 starters, including senior wide receiver Maxwell Nicholls, a UTEP pledge who posted 1,086 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns last season. His twin brother Mason Nicholls takes over at quarterback.

Head coach Mark Wilk's Blue Hawks made the postseason for the first time in program history in 2024 and punched their ticket again in 2025, according to Star Local Media. The 2026 season brings a new district alignment: Rock Hill now competes in District 6-6A alongside Allen, McKinney High, McKinney Boyd, Princeton, Dallas Jesuit, Prosper and Prosper Walnut Grove.

Bowie head coach Joseph Sam told the Dallas Morning News on Aug. 19 that his team's ambitions stretch beyond district hardware. "We still got a lot of work to do because our goal isn't just to be good enough to win the district. It's to play 16 weeks at the end of the day …" Sam said.

The Volunteers face their own gauntlet in District 3-6A, which now includes Aledo after the storied program moved up to Class 6A. Senior wide receiver AJ Birdow is another key returning weapon for Bowie alongside the Nicholls twins.

Rock Hill warmed up for the opener with a preseason scrimmage against Newman Smith on Aug. 20. The program also drew a large turnout at its Aug. 3 parent meeting as families rallied around the new season.

Rock Hill High School urged fans on X on Aug. 25 to pack the stands in electric blue for Thursday's kickoff.

Tickets are available at three levels: Freshman/JV Blue and Varsity through Hometown Ticketing, and JV Black. Kickoff is 7 p.m. Thursday at Rock Hill.
