Prosper ISD's Board of Trustees met behind closed doors Tuesday, Aug. 25, to continue deliberating on who will lead the nearly 35,000-student district as its next permanent superintendent.
The special meeting, held at 5 p.m. at the district's board room at 605 E. Seventh St., contained only two agenda items, according to the posted agenda: deliberation on the superintendent search process and deliberation on the employment of a new superintendent. No public portion beyond call to order and adjournment was held.
No hire was announced.
As of Wednesday, Aug. 26, the district had not posted minutes or named a finalist from the session. The closed meeting follows an earlier special session on the search, as we reported Aug. 22. The board also held its regular monthly meeting Monday, Aug. 24, the night before the special session.
How the search got here
The vacancy opened when Superintendent Dr. Holly Ferguson retired after six years leading the district and 23 years of total service. Trustees voted 7-0 on May 18 to hire Impact Education Specialists, a Texas-based executive search firm, to run the process. Deputy Superintendent Bill McLaughlin was named acting superintendent on May 26 to keep operations steady during the transition.
Board President Kelly Cavender said in the May 26 announcement that McLaughlin has "the experience and dedication needed to ensure a seamless transition for our students, staff, and community."
McLaughlin, a 33-year education veteran who served as deputy superintendent before stepping into the acting role, continues leading the district's day-to-day operations across 31 campuses.
What families should know
Two closed sessions in quick succession signals the board may be nearing a decision, though Texas open-meetings law permits trustees to deliberate on personnel matters in executive session and announce a hire only when they are ready to vote in open session.
