Prosper residents have until Oct. 22 to weigh in on a master plan that could expand the town's library to as much as 72,000 square feet.
The Town of Prosper released both volumes of the Prosper Community Library Facility Master Plan, which lays out expansion options ranging from 33,000 to 72,000 square feet, according to Prosper Local News. The current library at 200 S. Main St. serves a town whose population has roughly doubled in the past decade. The building shows it.
On busy weekday afternoons, parking lots are full, every computer station is claimed and children spread out across most available floor space, according to a June report by Prosper Local News. The 72,000-square-foot option would produce a facility comparable in scale to libraries serving well-established cities with much longer institutional histories. The 33,000-square-foot option still represents a meaningful expansion over the existing building.
Volume 1 of the plan includes benchmarking studies, community input gathered through focus groups and surveys, and recommendations for enhanced technology, programming and flexible spaces. Those recommendations align with Texas Library Association standards, according to the town's Library Master Plan page. Resident priorities that emerged from the process include more program space, room for creative and maker activities, and stronger connectivity as a community gathering point.
Volume 2 details what residents told the town they want: flexible meeting spaces, outdoor learning areas, a more spacious children's section and enhanced digital access. It also includes results from benchmarking tours of other Texas libraries that are shaping the facility's vision.
The planning effort dates back to 2024, when the Prosper Community Library posted a master plan survey on its official X account with a Sept. 3, 2024, deadline. That survey data feeds into the published plan.
The library already runs a full slate of fall 2026 programming through the existing building, including weekly preschool story times, toddler and big-kid music sessions and Wednesday evening English conversation practice. Later volumes in the planning sequence are expected to address site analysis, phasing options, cost modeling and funding strategies.
Both volumes are available at the town's Library Master Plan page. Residents can contact Library Director G. Landeck at [email protected] or (469) 905-0959.
