First Street in downtown Celina will shut down to through traffic between Coleman Street and Church Street starting Wednesday, Aug. 26, through Saturday, Aug. 29, for underground utility installation.

The Town of Prosper, which manages the widening project, posted the advisory on its official X account Monday, Aug. 24. Detours will be in place, though the town did not name a specific alternate route. Drivers should follow posted signage and allow extra travel time.

The four-day closure is the latest in a string of shutdowns on the same stretch this summer. The Coleman-to-Church block was closed Aug. 7–11 for the same underground utility work, and a broader segment from Main Street to Church Street was closed July 20–27, when detours ran via Broadway Street.

All of the closures tie back to the $27.3 million First Street widening project between Dallas Parkway and Coleman Street, which broke ground May 26, according to Community Impact. That segment is expected to wrap up in fall 2027. A prior phase from Stuber Elementary School to Dallas Parkway finished in December 2025 at a cost of $29.3 million, putting the combined price tag for both segments at $56.6 million.

Separately, BNSF closed First Street between Mike Howard Lane and Coleman Street from Aug. 3–5 to install new railroad crossing panels.

The town has not announced the next scheduled closure beyond Saturday. The full widening project is expected to be complete in fall 2027.
