Celina residents can tour Fire Station #2, meet firefighters and check out emergency equipment at a free open house Saturday, Sept. 19.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1805 Light Farms Way, inside the master-planned Light Farms community in northern Celina. No registration is required.
Visitors can expect guided station tours, looks at fire engines and ambulances, and fire safety demonstrations, according to the city's event page. Kids' activities include face painting, a sidewalk chalk contest and fresh-baked cookies, Community Impact reported.
The open house is part of a rotating series the Celina Fire Department holds throughout the year at each of its stations. The department said the events give residents a chance to meet the firefighters and paramedics who serve their neighborhoods and learn about emergency preparedness. The department also operates Station #3 at 4400 FM 1385 in Aubrey, giving its coverage area a wide footprint across northern Collin and southern Denton counties.
A growing department
The Celina Fire Department plans to hire nine additional firefighters in the 2026-27 fiscal year, moving fire engine crews from three members to four. Fire Chief Shawn White told Celina City Council on June 9 that the change will help "save lives and property" by aligning with firefighting best practices, as Community Impact reported.
The National Fire Protection Association and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration both recommend four-person engine crews, according to a city staff report cited in that article.
Expanding station coverage can also affect homeowners' wallets. When Celina opened Station #3, the Insurance Services Office rating for nearby Sutton Fields residents improved to a 3, which the city said can significantly reduce homeowners insurance costs.
Station #2 serves the Light Farms corridor, a growing area of Celina in Collin County just north of Prosper.

The next open house in the series is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 14, at Fire Station #1, 1413 S. Preston Road. That event also runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Details for both events are listed on the Celina Fire Department's open house page.
