Officer Juan Flores retired from the Prosper Police Department on Wednesday, Aug. 5, after 30 years in law enforcement. He is the second veteran to leave the department in two days.

The Prosper Police Department thanked Flores on its official X account Wednesday, paraphrasing his service as dedicated and wishing him well.

His departure came one day after Sgt. Hoover's retirement on Tuesday, Aug. 4, following 39 years in law enforcement and seven years with the department. As we reported Aug. 4, Hoover was honored with a final radio call, a tradition marking an officer's years of service.

Together, the two retirements represent a combined 69 years of law enforcement experience walking out the door in a single week.

The back-to-back departures land just days into Chief Brent Brown's tenure. Brown, a Prosper resident with more than 24 years of law enforcement experience, was sworn in as the department's new chief in late July after serving as assistant chief at the Celina Police Department, Community Impact reported.

Town Manager Mario Canizares said in a June 12 news release announcing Brown's appointment that the town was "excited to have a leader who has lived in our community and knows it inside and out."

The department had 14 officers and six dispatchers in 2014. By early 2026, it employed nearly 100 public servants, according to a profile published when former Chief Doug Kowalski retired.
