Republican Lance S. Baxter is seeking reelection as judge of Collin County Court at Law No. 3 in the Nov. 3, 2026, election. The state’s certified ballot lists no opposing candidate.

Current service

The county’s court directory identifies Baxter as the current judge. Collin County’s courts at law hear matters assigned by statute, including misdemeanors, civil disputes and appeals from lower courts.

Mental health court

In a February 2023 announcement, the county identified Baxter and District Judge Jennifer Edgeworth as the judges overseeing its new adult mental health court.

The program combines court supervision with outpatient treatment, case management and community support for eligible participants. The county’s program brochure describes a voluntary initiative lasting nine to 24 months.

Those are descriptions of an existing program, not proof that it achieves a particular reduction in repeat offenses or public spending. No new expansion cost or implementation schedule was verified for this profile.

Authority of the office

The judge applies law, manages cases and exercises authority within the court’s jurisdiction. Changes to state statutes or countywide appropriations require other officials’ involvement. The judicial election does not give one judge control over the county’s entire criminal justice system.
