Richland High School head tennis coach Nicholas Tanner hit 100 career wins Thursday, Sept. 10, after his team shut out The Colony 19-0.
Prosper ISD Athletics announced the milestone on its official account. The Richland Raiders Tennis Facebook page praised the achievement, calling Tanner a coach who has dedicated himself to his players.
The 100 wins span two programs. Tanner started coaching in 2019 at Waxahachie High School. He earned three District 11-6A Coach of the Year honors, led Waxahachie to six straight playoff appearances and guided the team to an undefeated district title.
According to his Waxahachie coaching biography, Tanner held the No. 1 ranking among United States Tennis Association (USTA) 4.0 players in Texas. He graduated high school in 2009 and earned a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Texas at Arlington before entering the classroom.
Tanner joined Richland ahead of the fall 2025 season. When the hire was announced in March 2025, Dr. Lute Croy wrote on X that Tanner "has a love and enthusiasm for tennis that is contagious, and most importantly, he loves helping students find their connection with school and helping them reach their potential in life."
Tanner's first full year at Richland brought individual honors for the program. At the June 16 Prosper ISD Board of Trustees meeting, Tanner was named Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) 4A Region 3 Girls Tennis Coach of the Year.
At the same meeting, Richland player Amanda Tanaka was recognized as UIL 4A Girls Tennis State Runner-Up. Tanaka won six tournaments during the season, claimed district and regional championships and set a new Richland school record with 44 singles wins.
The 19-0 shutout that delivered win No. 100 showed the depth Tanner has assembled. Richland's tennis program also includes a feeder program at Mosley Middle School, giving younger players a path into the Raiders' pipeline.
Tanaka's 44-win record stands as the benchmark for what comes next at Richland.
