Prosper Trail will be torn up and rebuilt as a four-lane concrete divided roadway from Coit Road to Custer Road, with construction expected to begin in summer 2028.

The design phase is nearing completion, according to a Community Impact transportation roundup published Monday, August 3. No cost has been announced.

The stretch connects key commercial development along the Dallas North Tollway corridor. Prosper Trail intersects the Tollway, where the NTTA's $459.7 million extension is under construction with a projected late 2027 completion. The 35-acre Prosper Arts District, anchoring the northwest corner of the Tollway and Prosper Trail, is on track for Phase 1 delivery in late 2026. That means the rebuilt road would serve as a primary access corridor for one of the town's largest mixed-use developments.

Part of a broader road overhaul

The reconstruction is one of several concurrent corridor upgrades the town is pushing through its capital improvement program:

  • Coit Road widening (First Street to Prosper Trail): Expanding from four to six lanes of concrete. Roughly two-thirds complete as of mid-2026, with an estimated completion in October 2026. Cost: $23.64 million, funded by the town of Prosper.
  • Frontier Parkway reconstruction (Preston Road to Custer Road): Also converting to four-lane concrete. Design is 60% complete, with plans submitted to TxDOT. Construction slated for 2027 if funding is secured.
  • Legacy Drive extension (Prosper Trail to a future Prosper ISD middle school): Prosper Town Council approved a $6.1 million construction contract on Tuesday, May 19. Total cost is $10.6 million, funded jointly by the town and Prosper ISD. Construction runs summer 2026 through summer 2027.

The Coit Road project is particularly relevant: once that widening wraps up in October, the intersection of Coit and Prosper Trail will be freshly expanded just as engineers finalize the Prosper Trail design.

What drivers should expect

The current Prosper Trail pavement between Coit and Custer will be fully replaced with concrete, and a raised median will divide the four lanes. No intermediate milestones, such as a bid date or council vote on a construction contract, have been publicly announced. The town has not released a project cost estimate.

The next publicly confirmed milestone is the summer 2028 construction start.
