Jeff Smith, athletic director in Prosper ISD, earned the Dave Campbell's Texas Football Athletic Director Spotlight Award, the statewide publication announced on Facebook.

Smith is the third recipient of the award, which is presented by the Texas Beef Council under its Beef Loving Texans brand. Prosper ISD Athletics posted on X Thursday, Sept. 10, that the district was "ProsperProud" of Smith's selection. The award archive on TexasFootball.com lists Smith alongside Aledo ISD's Brandy Belk among past winners.

Dave Campbell's Texas Football produces more than 2,000 live-streamed games each year. It has served as the Associated Press's official high school football rankings provider since 2019.

The recognition caps a strong run for Prosper ISD athletics. The district earned a District of Distinction designation through Playing the Texas Way for the second consecutive year, as announced June 9.

Smith's name appeared alongside several championship teams at the May 18 Prosper ISD Board meeting, according to the district's board recap. Walnut Grove High School's boys soccer team went 31-0 and extended its unbeaten streak to 60 games, described as a new UIL record. The Wildcats claimed back-to-back 5A Division I state titles with a 2-0 win over College Station. Head Coach Trent Kutch earned the NFHS National Head Coach of the Year honor for the 2024-25 season.

Walnut Grove's boys golf team captured the UIL 5A state championship. Austin Randall was named the 5A individual state champion after the team posted 12 top-three individual finishes and 10 top-three team finishes during the season. The girls soccer team went 23-3-1, scored 142 goals and allowed just 13 before falling 0-1 in overtime in its first-ever trip to the 5A Division I state championship game.

Prosper ISD now fields four high schools: Prosper High School, Rock Hill High School, Walnut Grove High School and Richland High School. The 2026-28 UIL realignment placed Prosper, Rock Hill and Walnut Grove together in District 6-6A alongside Allen, McKinney High, McKinney Boyd, Princeton and Dallas Jesuit.
