More than half of Prosper Fire Rescue's calls in August overlapped with another active call, the highest overlap rate the department has reported in 2026.

The department responded to 467 calls for service in August, the highest single-month total in 2026 through August and a 29% jump from 362 calls in August 2025, according to the town's monthly fire report. The rate of what the department tracks as overlapping calls hit 57%. A year earlier, that figure was 36%.

The trend has been climbing all year. In June, the overlap rate reached 56%, up from 28% the same month in 2025. July came in at 47%, compared to 33% a year prior. August's 57% marks the peak.

Medical calls drove the workload. Of the 467 August incidents, 205 were medical responses. Public service calls accounted for 90, alarms for 49 and motor vehicle collisions for 43. Fires totaled 16.

Through August, the department logged 1,356 medical calls for the year, more than double the next-largest category.

Response times and mutual aid

Average total response time in August was 6 minutes, 54 seconds. The 90th-percentile response time, meaning nine out of 10 calls were answered faster, was 9 minutes, 1 second. Average travel time was 5 minutes, 36 seconds.

Prosper gave mutual aid to neighboring departments 19 times in August and received it twice. Celina accounted for 13 of the 19 assists Prosper provided. Frisco and Aubrey each received two, with one each going to Little Elm and McKinney. Celina provided both of the mutual aid responses Prosper received.

Station 4 and capacity

The department opened Fire Station 4 at 3980 E. Prosper Trail on April 28 in a $13.8 million investment that added a paramedic engine company on the town's east side. The 12,212-square-foot station has sleeping quarters for up to eight firefighters and two pull-through apparatus bays.

"Fire Station 4 strengthens our ability to be where our residents need us, when they need us," Fire Chief Stuart Blasingame said in an April press release announcing the station's opening. The town plans to add an ambulance at Station 4 in fiscal year 2028.

Prosper Fire Rescue also logged 3,850 training hours in August and conducted 22 community relations events, 10 smoke detector installations and 6 community education sessions.
