Potbelly Sandwich Shop has leased space on Preston Road in Celina and plans to open by summer 2027, as Community Impact reported Wednesday, Sept. 23.

A company representative confirmed the lease and said the shop will sit on Preston Road north of Ownsby Parkway. The location is one of several Potbelly shops planned for the Dallas market, the representative said in an email statement.

The company told What Now Dallas it plans to grow through both corporate-owned and franchised locations in the area.

A Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing cited by Hoodline describes a $450,000 tenant finish-out covering 2,000 square feet. The filing lists construction running from Dec. 29 to June 15, 2027, with DXU Architects as the design firm.

Potbelly has no Celina location yet. The chain operates more than 465 shops nationwide.

In North Texas, franchisees Barry and Remington Burke opened a Potbelly in west McKinney in September. The father-and-son duo plans to bring 15 shops total to North and East Texas, according to a company release cited by Community Impact. Burke Restaurant Group signed a multi-unit franchise deal in September 2025 targeting nine locations across McKinney, Allen, Princeton, Melissa, Denton and Flower Mound, according to Hoodline.

Potbelly became a privately held company in October 2025 after RaceTrac, an Atlanta-based convenience store operator, completed a $566 million all-cash acquisition, according to Hoodline.

The Celina shop would join a growing list of national chains on Preston Road. Chipotle opened its first Celina location on the corridor in July. Bojangles opened at 3615 S. Preston Road on June 23.

Academy Sports + Outdoors, The Home Depot and Costco all opened on Preston Road in August.

U.S. Census Bureau data released in May showed Celina grew 24.6% between July 2024 and July 2025, the fastest rate among U.S. cities with at least 20,000 residents. The city has nearly quadrupled in size since 2020, adding more than 46,000 residents, according to the Texas Tribune.

No grand opening date or ribbon-cutting has been announced. The company has not specified whether the Celina location will be corporate-owned or franchised.
