Celina shoppers will get their first Costco on Wednesday, August 26, when the 158,000-square-foot warehouse opens at 3445 S. Preston Road at the corner of Ownsby Parkway.

The Celina Chamber of Commerce confirmed the date and is hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony starting at 7:30 a.m. The store opens to members at 8 a.m. Community Impact first reported the confirmed date, citing the chamber's social media announcement.

The warehouse will include a fueling station. Costco's own website had previously listed the Celina location for an August 2026 opening, and Inc. magazine includes it among seven new Costco stores opening nationwide in August.

The store anchors the Village at Ownsby Farms development, a retail district taking shape along south Preston Road that also includes a planned Home Depot at 3425 S. Preston Road and an Academy Sports + Outdoors, according to Local Profile. Several restaurant concepts are also planned for the development.

The opening adds to a wave of major retailers arriving on Celina's Preston Road corridor. The city's first Walmart opened off Preston Road on April 29, and Celina City Council approved incentives for a second Walmart on July 14, according to Community Impact. The strategy is deliberate.

"That is definitely what we look for in securing these types of retailers inside of our boundaries, so that we cause sales tax leakage for our lovely neighbors," Mayor Ryan Tubbs said at the July 14 council meeting when the second Walmart incentive was approved.

The corridor's draw reflects Celina's explosive growth. The city's population is projected to exceed 100,000 by 2028, Preston Road retail sites see roughly 36,000 vehicles per day, and the trade area's median household income tops $170,000, according to the Celina Economic Development Corporation.
