Celina added a Bojangles, a Panda Express, and a Walmart in June. Those are among 11 businesses that opened during the month, which also saw the city issue 287 single-family home permits and greenlight 11 new commercial construction projects, according to the city's June 2026 development services report.

The permit count jumped 32% from May's 218, and the homes are getting bigger and pricier. Average valuation hit $608,702 in June, up from $577,635 the month before. Average square footage rose to 3,566 from 3,395.

Legacy Hills led all subdivisions with 66 permits. Mustang Lakes, Parks at Wilson Creek, and Ramble each posted 22. The Ranch at Uptown recorded 21, Cambridge Crossing 19, Sutton Fields 19, and Cross Creek Meadows 14. City inspectors conducted 7,558 construction inspections during the month.

New commercial construction

Eleven commercial projects received permits in June, up from nine in May, spanning the South Preston Road corridor, the Dallas North Tollway, and east Celina:

  • Off The Rails Icehouse at 1405 E. Sunset Blvd.

  • Methodist Woman's Health Specialist – OBGYN at 1530 S. Dallas Pkwy., No. 200
  • La Terra Amenity Center at 1615 Aventine Ln.
  • The Crossing at Moore Farm – Shops A at 225 E. Ownsby Pkwy.
  • WIA Performance Center at 3500 Louisiana Dr.
  • Celina Crossing – Lots 10 and 11 at 4340–4350 S. Preston Rd.
  • Methodist Timeshare at 1530 S. Dallas Pkwy., No. 212

Club Pilates and Jimmy John's share the same retail development on South Preston Road. The two Methodist permits sit on the Dallas North Tollway corridor at 1530 S. Dallas Pkwy., signaling a medical office cluster there.

New business openings

June's 11 openings nearly doubled May's six. Beyond Bojangles (3615 S. Preston Rd.), Panda Express (3530 S. Preston Rd.), and Walmart (400 Icy Trl.), the list includes Metroplex Gymnastic & Swim at 3730 Aubrey Way, Take 5 Oil Change at 4505 S. Preston Rd., We Rock the Spectrum at 3510 N. Louisiana Dr., and Simply Labs at 560 W. Frontier Pkwy.

Growth in context

The numbers land as Celina continues to hold the title of fastest-growing city in the nation among places with more than 20,000 residents. Census Bureau data released in May showed the city grew 24.6% between July 2024 and July 2025, adding more than 12,710 people, according to the Texas Tribune. Celina's population has surged from roughly 6,000 in 2010 to about 64,000 in 2025.

"It attracts a lot of like-minded young families that want to be in new communities," Mayor Ryan Tubbs told the Texas Tribune in May when the census figures were released.

No opening timelines have been announced for the 11 newly permitted commercial projects. Celina's Downtown Commission is scheduled to meet Thursday, August 6, at 9 a.m. at 112 N. Colorado St.
